1) Go to Central Administration | Application Management | Manage service applications | Performance Point Service Application | Performance Point Service Application Settings and set the Secure Store and Unattended Service Account. Make sure this account has access to the data source.

Hi Chakkaradeep,
I completed the steps above, with no success, still cannot connect. We are unable to create any PPS content. This is (obviously) a blocker for us. As an aside, we did try to run the dashboard designer under different permission levels, including the site admin, it failed with the same error msg for all of them. Help. Please. :)
I'd be interested if there is anything in the Application Event Log or if you're able to successfully create other objects, like KPIs or Scorecards. In addition, maybe check to see if something like Excel Services is working to see if it is a broader Service Applications aren't working vs. a specific problem to PPS.
I've experienced the same problem and resolved it by doing the following:
Central Admin > Application Management > Configure service application associations > default.
A modal popup should appear and PerformancePoint Services will be unchecked. Check that box and click OK.
My primitive understanding of the problem was that though the service was enabled on the server, it wasn't added to the Services Proxy. The following page refers to the Service Application Assocciations bit "A PerformancePoint Services service application provides a resource that can be shared across sites and in a farm, and that can be accessed by users through an associated Web application. The PerformancePoint Services service application is associated to the Web application by service application connections. " (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee748643.aspx). This is made explicit (the 6th step) in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee748644.aspx (under the Create a PerformancePoint Services service application by using Windows PowerShell section) where the a powershell command "creates an associated service application proxy for the PerformancePoint Services service application".
Hope this helps.

Everyone who wants to work with PerformancePoint Services should check out "Soup to Nuts" blog post by the PerformancePoint Services team.
Great reference for configuring it.

Thank you, It is helped to resolve my problem !!
Sometimes when explaining what works, it is a good idea to mention the steps that were followed exactly instead of "that guys solution helped" ... there is no context or even confirmation of the problem. Let us just say that nothing on this list helped with my problem and now my whole performance point installation on my farm is apparently bad such that none of the current performance point libraries are able to work at all. it looks like I have to recreate everything from scratch?
I just need a proper list that is better than the over wordy "nuts to bolts" on getting the default set up and how to import a performance point site from another farm into a new one.
This worked for me as well Hantu7. When configuring the service I elected not to allow it into the default services for a web application. I believe that may be why it was not checked from the git-go.
Thanks!
